Trying my new gear (sony A7III, Zeiss Batis 85mm, Samyang AF 35 2.8, DJI Spark Drone).

Maybe it wasn’t a smart idea adding some new gear during wedding season but I am always so curious to try new things so I recently bought a Sony A III mirrorless camera, a Zeiss Batis 85 mm, a Samyang AF 35 2.8 and a DJI Spark Drone.

I already used them during my latest photoshoots and I was quite happy about them but I did not had the chance to try them without any  rush and being able to test them properly.

My friend Giada was asking for pictures so we got the chance to do both things, try new stuff while shooting some nice pictures.

Let’s start with the new Sony mirrorless system:

PROS:

  • AF is really fast and reliable (at least with my own 2 lens), it’s a joy to use it,
  • Eye af is a great tool too but It’s not always dead on but it’s a good feature overall
  • The viewfinder is good (I found no lag) and quite bright.
  • Battery life is very good
  • double SD card slot  (a pro feature I need on my gear )

CONS:

  • Ergonomics. I had to use a battery grip even if I have very small hands
  • No upper display (I find it useful on my nikon gear)
  • too slow from turning on the camera and being able to focus
  • focus point are marked in grey, it’s hard to see them while shooting

It’s not a cons but, so far, I am not in love with the raw files. I found a greenish cast over the images (mostly with Batis) , they are very good anyway but I found just a little difference with Nikon D750 files (a camera from 4 years ago).

ZEISS BATIS 85 MM 1.8

PROS:

  • very very very very very sharp even wide open.
  • nice bokeh
  • very fast AF
  • very good flare resistance
  • weather sealing

CONS:

  • Very cold skin tones (IMHO)

SAMYANG AF 35MM 2.8

PROS:

  • Sharp wide open
  • extremely lightweight and compact
  • Optical quality
  • one of the cheapest lens for sony e-mount
  • decent AF

CONS:

  • flare could be a problem

just some pictures from yesterday’s shooting

Let’s talk about the DJI SPARK drone.

I am TOTALLY new to drones and videos so I won’t talk about specifics, details or technical stuff.

I just want you to know that shooting from above is opening a whole new way of taking pictures, I am still amazed and I am having som much fun

here’s some pictures from latest shooting and from a seaside’s sunset session

I hope you liked them !

ciao from Tuscany
